diet and exercise regiment

gestational diabetes, weight gain and fat baby?
I am currently 28 weeks of pregnancy and risk of gestational diabetes. I 5'7, athletic and active prior to pregnancy and weighed 175-180 pounds. I have maintained a healthy diet and exercise regiment throughout my pregnancy and I gained 9 pounds so far. I do not like candy, and eat a balanced meal. My biggest problem is to jump meals. My question is, since I have not gained much weight and is healthy eating and exercise, I am still at risk of giving birth to more than size of a baby? Also, what are the signs of a big baby? I heard early contractions and weight gain are signs large babies, but since I have not gained much weight, and have no idea what contractions feel like, since its my first pregnancy, I'm really guessing.
weight gain has nothing to do with the overall size of your baby. Your genetic make and if you have uncontrolled gestational diabetes. Your weight gain is simply the normal increase in blood fluid and the baby. Do not worry if your diet healthy to stay active, I am sure you have a baby of average size.

The Thyroid Diet $10.99 From patient advocate Mary Shomon, author of Living Well With Hypothyroidism , here is the first book to tackle the weight factors specific to thyroid patients and detail a conventional and alternative plan for lasting weight loss. An estimated 10 million Americans have been diagnosed with thyroid disease—most of them women—and for the majority of them, losing weight is mentioned time and time again as a primary concern and chief frustration—a challenge made more difficult due to the metabolic slowdown of a malfunctioning thyroid gland. For these thyroid patients, treatment alone doesn't seem to resolve weight problems. Further, they may struggle with raising basic metabolism, resolving underlying nutritional deficiencies, treating depression and correcting brain chemistry imbalances, reducing stress, and combating insulin resistance. The Thyroid Diet will identify these factors that inhibit a thyroid patient's ability to lose weight, and offer solutions—both conventional and alternative—to help. It will discuss optimal dietary changes, including how a thyroid sufferer should focus on a low-glycemic, high-fibre, low-calorie diet, eaten as smaller, more frequent meals to balance blood sugar. The Thyroid Diet addresses the use of various herbs, nutritional supplements, and prescription weight loss drugs, outlining the necessity of exercise, and drawing together all information into an integrated diet and exercise plan. It contains several different eating plans, food lists, and a set of delicious and healthy gourmet recipes. With handy worksheets to use in weight loss tracking, and a special resource section featuring websites, books, and support groups, here is vital help for the millions of thyroid patients dealing with weight problems. Mary Shomon has been praised by doctors around the country for her medical knowledge and sensitivity to patients' needs. She will be receiving similar blurbs for this new book. There are no other books on controlling your weight problems if you have a thyroid condition, yet over 40% of overweight people have evidence of a thyroid condition, and the weight loss problems facing them are unique and need a specific approach. |

The Fertility Diet $24.95 Could having the occasional small bowl of ice cream lead to a midnight craving for pickles and ice cream? It's common knowledge that diet and exercise have profound effects on your health. Can they affect your ability to get pregnant, too? Until now, the answer to that question was a qualified "Maybe." Today, it's "Yes!" thanks to exciting findings from a landmark long-term study of female nurses. As described in The Fertility Diet , ten simple changes in diet and activity can have profound effects on fertility. You can increase your chances of getting pregnant with such simple strategies as: Avoiding trans fats; Eating more beans, nuts, and other fertility-boosting plant protein; Embracing whole grains such as oatmeal and barley; Having a glass of whole milk or other full-fat dairy product every day (a small bowl of ice cream every now and then counts, too!); Staying away from sugared sodas. The Nurses' Health Study exhaustively examined the effects of diet and other lifestyle changes on fertility among nearly 20,000 female nurses. It scrutinized everything from alcohol to vitamins. In plain language, two of the study's lead researchers translate its groundbreaking findings into changes you can put into practice today, setting the stage for a healthy pregnancy and forming the foundation for an eating strategy that will serve you well for the rest of your life. The Rosedale Diet $10.99 Finally—the ultimate diet for fast, safe weight loss, lifelong health, and longer life, based on more than twenty years of research and the latest findings on appetite and weight. Metabolic specialist Ron Rosedale, M.D., has designed the Rosedale Diet to regulate the powerful hormone leptin, which controls appetite and weight loss by telling the brain when to eat, how much to eat—and when to stop. New research shows that leptin may be one of the body's most important hunger control mechanisms. Control leptin, and you control your weight. Most people's leptin levels are out of control, causing them to overeat and to store fat rather than burn it. The only way to flip the "hunger switch" back to normal is through a diet high in healthy fats and low in carbohydrates, saturated fat, and trans-fatty acids often found in processed food—plus just 15 minutes of daily exercise. Dr. Rosedale's 21-day diet plan is simple: Just select from the many foods on his "A" list, including "healthy-fat" foods such as avocados, nuts, olives, lobster, crab, shrimp, goat cheese, Cornish game hen, venison, and more. Then gradually add foods from the "B" list, such as steak, lamb chops, fruits, beans, and so on. A 28-day menu plan and more than 100 recipes, such as Dilled Salmon and Fresh Asparagus, Gingery Chicken Soup, Lasagna, Black Bean Wrap, Raspberry Mousse Cake, and French Silk Pie, make eating the Rosedale way deliciously easy. Weight loss is just the beginning. The Rosedale Diet will make you feel satisfied, reduce cravings, and put you in control of your "sweet tooth." It can even help eliminate or reduce heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions associated with "natural" aging, as many of Dr. Rosedale's patients can attest. You'll find inspiring stories from them—and the power to control your weight and improve your health—in this groundbreaking book. |
