exercise endorphins brain morphine
Is Running addiction?
Most doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists will tell you they have patients who seem to be connected or addicted to physical activities. How many times have I been asked by some patients who have hurt their backs low and can barely walk to the bathroom, when they can start to run?
They do not want them telling me they have to rest for several days and can not exercise gentle stretching during their recovery period. It seems they feel deprived when they should really stop working. Just as some people become dependent on alcohol, tobacco or drugs, or jogging is also a dependency.
Laboratory tests using mice have shown that mice can become addicted to the race and that some areas of the brain "lights up" when these activities are underway.
The mice also show symptoms of deprivation when these activities are not allowed. Physiologists believe that you can become addicted to exercise, a bit like an addiction to morphine. Vigorous exercise causes an increase in your levels of endorphins. The name comes from endorphin the combination of two words endogenous (Made in your body) and morphine, and that these chemicals affect the same receptors as narcotics.
Endorphin levels rise with most episodes of intense physical activity. Scientists believe that the endorphins account for a runner up and explain why someone might become addicted to exercise. Please do not believe for a moment that I do not recommend running and jogging. Both activities are wonderful for stimulating the heart, strengthen muscles and increase our endurance.
In addition to these benefits is the burning of excess fat so that our body can stay trim and can develop endurance. The bottom line is that running, jogging and all other activities as the only form a small part of our total life. If we allow them to become bigger than ourselves, our lives will be dictated by dependency and
suffer in accordingly.
Remember to consult your chiropractor regularly to ensure that your spine is properly
aligned and the joints are moving well. You will find that running and jogging will not be painful. I just hear you say it means "No more endorphins?
This can be a problem!

Morphine $41.94 Morphine is one of the oldest and most powerful pain relievers. Referred to as an opiate, morphine is one of the main chemicals found in opium, a gooey sap-like substance obtained from the opium poppy. Morphine can produce extraordinary relief from many types of pain, but also produces other effects such as sedation, constipation, lowered pulse and blood pressure, and feelings of extreme pleasure. Morphine and other opiate drugs are often called narcotic drugs, since in high doses they can produce heavy sedation and a sleep- or coma-like state called narcosis. Prolonged use of morphine can result in dependence and addiction, even when the pain that necessitated a prescription for the narcotic has disappeared. This use of prescription narcotic pain relievers for reasons other than pain relief is a growing problem in the United States and elsewhere. Morphine covers the history, uses, and dangers of this addictive drug. |

Tramacet 325 mg /37.5mg 60 Tabl. $21.75 How does it work? This medicine contains two active ingredients, Tramadol hydrochloride and Paracetamol. These are both pain-relieving medicines. Tramadol hydrochloride is a type of painkiller called an opioid. It is related to morphine, though is not as strong a painkiller. Opioid painkillers work by mimicking the action of naturally occurring pain-reducing chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins are found in the brain and spinal cord and reduce pain by combining with opioid receptors. Tramadol mimicks the action of our natural endorphins by combining with the opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. This blocks the transmission of pain signals sent by the nerves to the brain. Therefore, even though the cause of the pain may remain, less pain is actually felt. Tramadol also works by enhancing the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain and spinal cord. Neurotransmitters are chemical compounds that act as chemical messengers between the nerve cells. Tramadol enhances the effect of the neurotransmitters serotonin and noradrenaline, and this action also helps relieve pain. Paracetamol is a non-opioid painkiller that on its own is used to relieve mild to moderate pain. It can also reduce fever. It is not fully understood how paracetamol works. The combination of tramadol and paracetamol in this medicine is used to provide relief from moderate to severe pain. What is it used for? Moderate to severe pain |

Brain Longevity $9.99 This revolutionary (and fascinating) book explains how we can postpone the aging of our brains and instead develop extraordinary brain longevity, with memory, concentration, energy, and learning ability even better than what we enjoy in our youth. The BRAIN LONGEVITY program is a four-step plan using modern complementary medicine, from Eastern and Western traditions, and including nutritional therapy, stress management, exercise therapy, and pharmacology, all designed to overcome "normal" brain aging. The program is designed to control a specific adrenal hormone, cortisol, which clinical testing has shown to be toxic to the brain and to become present in excessive levels as we age. Excess cortisol (which is often caused by stress as well as "normal" aging) diminishes the abilities of our brain cells and savages the body's production of hormones, including those that regulate our mood and our sex drive. Dr. Khalsa's holistic program reverses this toxicity and allows the brain to return to vibrancy and optimum mental ability. This is an easy-to-follow plan that can change the lives of millions. |

Brain Training $19.95 Brain Training is an easy-to-digest collection of puzzles and tips to help exercise the brain and keep the cognitive faculties razor-sharp. Multi-disciplinary in approach, the book covers key areas of brain function, including memory, perception, problem-solving, verbal reasoning, and the body (how diet, exercise, meditation and other physical and mental fillips can raise brainpower). The book opens with a "Where are you now?" chapter, introducing the reader to a raft of disparate tests to gauge their current mental agility. Each chapter then concentrates on a specific brain function, beginning with a lively explanation of how it works and then offers the most effective prescriptions available to exercise that particular mental function. Feature spreads concentrate on particular theories and practices, such as the "Journey Method" for improving memory or the "Physical Fillip" to increase mental alertness. At the end of each chapter, the reader completes a series of tests to assess overall improvement as compared to the results from the "Where are you now?" opener. The structure allows the reader to either work through the book from cover-to-cover or to pick out a specific topic and work on it alone, e.g. memory or perception.
