exercise ropes and pulleys
Exercise machines early 70's?
I remember in the early 70s, there was an exercise device that I can not find. Take a bicycle pump, remove the stem and reverse the valves. Put a rope where the soft strains used to be. Put another string on the bottom of the pump. Firm up the top and bottom with pulleys. Strength is built by the resistance of air to pull the rope through the pump. There is no drop, so valves must be returned to the starting position after each repetition by pulling the rope on the bottom of the pump. Has anyone seen such a device, and what can you tell me?
It was so long that no one offered for sale such as your only chance to find one would be in a museum or on EBay. Pneumatic and hydraulic exercise machines have made a comeback recently, but most do not like the low levels of resistance. About only places that use this type of equipment are physical therapy clinics and exercise facilities for women and the elderly.

The World Market for Flywheels, Pulleys, and Pulley Blocks $325 This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for flywheels, pulleys, and pulley blocks. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for flywheels, pulleys, and pulley blocks for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. |
