exercise wheelchair elderly

Is it legal to buy a medical device not yet approved by the FDA, England, and delivered to the U.S.?

There is a device called http://www.youtube.com/nudrive08 NuDrive I want to get my wheelchair. It only costs $ 600, not port understood, but I have a nephew in the army, which he assigned that can buy it for me. Comparable equipment manufactured in the United States have a cost from $ 4,000. It was approved for sale in England last year. It takes up to three years for approvals FDA. I want to get out more, but I do not want to use an electric chair or scooter, as you do not get to use the exercise. I think they have been very detrimental to the health of the elderly and many people with disabilities. Of interest, Medicare and private insurance cover the cost of an electric wheelchair or a $ 6,000 scooter, but does not cover the cost of equipment, even America made that are similar.

Import laws would be the cause, although I do not see why it would be. I do not know the details, but there are laws about importing unauthorized medical devices. I do not see how this could violate such a law because it is not really a medical device. I know, stranger things can be called a medical device, but it seems that the electric scooter / chair people would be tears about it, not the FDA. Just the label "pieces chair "package (which is the truth) and send it. All they can do is ask you want kind of chair parts they are. Handles would be a good answer ... (G)

Wheelchair Warrior

Wheelchair Warrior

$20.95

Melvin Juette has said that becoming paralyzed in a gang-related shooting was “both the worst and best thing that happened” to him. The incident, he believes, surely spared the then sixteen year-old African American from prison and/or an early death. It transformed him in other ways, too. He attended college and made wheelchair basketball his passion—ultimately becoming a star athlete and playing on the U.S. National Wheelchair Basketball Team.   In Wheelchair Warrior, Juette reconstructs the defining moments of his life with the assistance of sociologist Ronald Berger. His poignant memoir is bracketed by Berger’s thoughtful introduction and conclusion, which places this narrative of race, class, masculinity and identity into proper sociological context, showing how larger social structural forces defined his experiences. While Juette’s story never gives into despair, it does challenge the idea of the “supercrip.”
