Opinions on the color fine-tuning to finishing the basement?
I finished my basement in a more modern design with a home theater, exercise room, kitchen, extra bedroom, office space, a wine cellar and large game room open. I plan to paint the black trim, and painting or perhaps the color of the doors of a different color, as dk. brown. The color scheme is going to be more vibrant colors like kiwi green, red and blue cobalt. The rest of the house is transitional in design of doors and white trim. I have 9 foot ceilings and 4 windows with transoms and several glass doors windows to let light in, so I'm not really worried about it being too dark. The flooring that I chose for the theater is a printed red / geometric cork to the wine cellar and neutral white / brown / beige 24 "slab with stainless steel bar accent. I would whether anyone has seen or done black trim and opinions on this subject. Thank you.

Twelve Rooms with a View $13.99 How would it feel to go overnight from living in a trailer park to a twelve-room apartment overlooking Central Park in a landmark Victorian building?   This is what happens to housecleaner Tina Finn, who, with her sisters, Alison and Lucy, suddenly comes into possession of the Livingston Mansion Apartment at the Edgewood. The Finn sisters inherit the $11 million property from their estranged alcoholic mother, but they aren’t the only siblings vying for it. Their mother’s wealthy second husband, Bill—who died just three weeks before Tina’s mother—has two sons. And they are furious at the thought of losing the apartment that’s been in their family for generations.  Tina moves into the nearly vacant, palatial space to solidify her claim to it, but she soon discovers that Bill’s sons aren’t the only ones who want her out. The building’s other residents are none too pleased by her presence either. In fact, the co-op board has designs on wresting control of the apartment from both sets of children.  As Tina fends off all the people who want to evict her (or worse), she starts to get involved in her neighbors’ complex lives. There’s the mercurial, eccentric botanist who may be either a friend or an enemy; the self-absorbed, randy son of the co-op board president, whose friendship without benefits Tina tries to curry; the large, chaotic family whose depressed teenage daughter becomes Tina’s ally and spy; the ghost Tina hears crying at night in her apartment’s secret room . . .  In this entertaining yarn by acclaimed playwright, screenwriter, and author Theresa Rebeck, we follow Tina Finn—a woman both comical and compelling, well intentioned and a bit of a thief—as she begins to love her new home, discovers traits to admire in people she’s only just met, and realizes, finally, her place in her family and the world. From the Hardcover edition. |

Emotional Rooms $8.32 emotional ROOMS the sensual interiors of benjamin noriega-ortiz Named by House Beautiful as one of "America's Most Brilliant Decorators" for ten consecutive years, Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz is recognized as one of the most stylish and influential of today's interior designers. His sensuous, glamorous, and ethereal work captures an unusual sense of openness and light through the use of color, materials, architecture, and the unexpected integration of fashion. Noriega-Ortiz has traveled the world to design spaces for such clients as rock superstar Lenny Kravitz, bestselling author Laura Esquivel, and celebrity photographer Mark Seliger. Now, with Emotional Rooms , he shares his process with anyone who may not have access to a high-end designer but wants a home or workspace that is at once beautiful and true to themselves. Noriega-Ortiz brings together in this book not only photographs of his interiors but personal images that will inspire and evoke the designer within us all. With stunning full-color photographs and clear, concise essays, he guides readers through the essential principles of design -- color, architecture, furniture, and lighting -- and gives advice on how homeowners can prevent common mistakes. He shows them how to break the rules, ignore trends and labels, stop pleasing others, and decorate their homes to reflect their own true desires. For those influenced by passing fads and fashions, Noriega-Ortiz's essential advice is: Emotion is always a better guide than intellect when it comes to creating a richly satisfying environment. Home truly is where the heart is, and this famous designer has what it takes to help readers put the heart back into their homes. |

Bright Rooms $10.9 Celia has never been the most diligent of aunts. Even when her brother died she didn't pay very much attention to her niece, Tamsin, and now it is too late. Tamsin is dead, found hanged in woodland near her home and leaving behind an enigma about her passing. Devastated by her death and ridden with guilt by her own neglect, Celia is determined to discover what would have caused her to take her own life. Then she learns that Tamsin was pregnant, but everything she is told by Tamsin's mother and her schoolfriends indicates that the teenager's reputation was the complete opposite to being promiscuous, yet the forensic evidence establishes that she was sexually 'mature'. Even more determined to get at the truth, Celia gradually reveals a side of Tamsin's life which no-one had known or guessed at, and she begins to believe that someone else was involved with her death. Rooms: The Main Building (DS) $12.99 It's hard to think of a unique angle to pitch puzzle games at these days. There's either the block-busting kind, the match-up kind, the numbers-kind or the sliding-kind. Rooms: The Main Building doesn't stray too far off the beaten track by going for the latter, but will intrigue you with its interesting premise. Levels are broken down into 'rooms', and your aim is to help navigate the protagonist to the exit door. You do this by sliding sections of the room around – although your character can walk from tile to tile, if there is a gap you must move the floor piece your character is standing on to provide an additional route. The game is set in a creepy and mysterious house called Rooms Mansion – which just happens to be in a parallel world. Always seems to happen. As a result, you'll find objects that work in wacky ways – telephones will teleport you from one side of a room to another, while explosives can be used to blow your way through weak walls. Some rooms will have environmental hazards that you will need to overcome before your character can tackle the level. As you would expect, each room provides a challenge more difficult than the last, and you'll be taxed to the very core trying to work your way around. Ultimately, your objective is to seek four golden puzzle pieces that will help transport you home. And if you manage to arrange the floor tiles in each room in such a manner so that it creates a jigsaw puzzle-esque image, you get additional bonuses. |

A Thousand Rooms of Dream and Fear $15.95 Farhad is a typical student, twenty-one years old, interested in wine, women, and poetry, and negligent of the religious conservatism of his grandfather. But he lives in Kabul in 1979, and the early days of the pro-Soviet coup are about to change his life forever. One night Farhad goes out drinking with a friend who is about to flee to Pakistan, and is brutally abused by a group soldiers. A few hours later he slowly regains consciousness in an unfamiliar house, beaten and confused, and thinks at first that he is dead. A strange and beautiful woman has dragged him into her home for safekeeping, and slowly Farhad begins to feel a forbidden love for her—a love that embodies an angry compassion for the suffering of Afghanistan’s women. As his mind sifts through its memories, fears, and hallucinations, and the outlines of reality start to harden, he realizes that, if he is to escape the soldiers who wish to finish the job they started, he must leave everything he loves behind and find a way to get to Pakistan. Rahimi uses his tight, spare prose to send the reader deep into the fractured mind and emotions of a country caught between religion and the political machinations of the world’s superpowers. |
